Rod Hunt was commissioned by the Daily Mail newspaper to illustrate a series of Where's Wally/Waldo style search and find illustrations for The Great British £100,000 Treasure Hunt. Each week for four weeks a lucky reader would win £25,000 of gold bars, by simply solving a series of clues or riddles. Each of the four treasure hunts would begin with the first clue contained in the artwork of a traditional British scene. The locations for the scenes were based on Warwick Castle, Brixham, Stratford Upon Avon and The Lake District.
